Document and Information Management in the Mining and Oil/Gas Industries is a consistent challenge. Documents are created from disparate sources during the design, production, and operations of a plant, usually from multiple corporations such as an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) to an OO (Owner Operator). Keeping track of these documents is a logistical nightmare, as is making efficient use out of them. EeeDee aims to simplify this industry by providing easy access through a single application.
An Engineering Data Warehouse is a central repository of engineering information compiled together from disparate systems. This data can comprise of documents from all disciplines in the process industry as well as asset information, specifications, maintenance data, and designs. The aim of an Engineering Data Warehouse is to provide a single point of reference for easy access to information.
Why use an Engineering Data Warehouse?
An Engineering Data Warehouse allows information to be easily and efficiently accessible. From knowing the id of an asset it's easy to view all associated documentation, view purchase orders, maintenance information, or even view an arrangement drawing to quickly locate an asset in the facility. This is a far more sensible solution than hunting down disconnected information in a variety of source systems.
Standards-Based Engineering
An Engineering Data Warehouse can aid industry standards. Utilising the principles of EPISTLE (European Process Industries STEP Technical Liason Executive), to use a Generic Entity Framework for data models, allows for a highly normalized data model accompanied by a classification schema or class library. With a foundation such as this, an Engineering Data Warehouse can conform to standards both current and historic such as POSC/Caesar and ISO 15926.
What is EeeDee?
EeeDee (Short for Engineering Datawarehouse) is a concept, a work in progress. EeeDee will aim to cater for the mass of engineering documents during the full life-cycle of a plant and provide easy access to documents and asset information as well as analytics and reports.
